Purpose of a FRAEW

A Fire Risk Appraisal of External Wall (FRAEW) evaluates the fire risk associated with a building’s external wall system, identifying the materials present, assessing fire-barrier performance, and determining whether remediation or further investigation is required. It is a vital process for responsible persons managing multi-storey, multi-occupied residential buildings, helping them understand their building’s safety and compliance status.

A FRAEW also enables the completion of an EWS1 form, which, whilst not a legal requirement, is often essential for mortgage lending, insurance purposes, and property transactions.
